On March 20, at DUMBO Sky, we celebrated the release of The Asian American Literary Review’s issue on 90’s Asian American Activism. Here I read one of my first writings, “Binding the Woman to her Navel” a fantasy like prose-poem. It was great fun to share it and see how I was speaking about place, belonging, migration and being mixed-race but with the language of fantasy writing. Thanks to Asia Pacific Forum and AALR for reminding me of the importance of returning to early writing, and inspiring me to write more magical realism.
