That’s right, not Chanel #5 but The Portable BOOG Reader #5 is the hottest thing that ended 2010 for me. The best part of this was that I had submitted my poetry to this quintessential NYC poetry journal back when I was 15 years old. I had received a sweet rejection note on an orange card that I had kept for years. It made that inner poet-child overjoyed to be invited to submit.
Here’s to circularity and the joy of poetry.
Here it is, everyone: The Portable Boog Reader 5. This is our second time sharing our annual anthology with a sister city. Our New York City editors—Douglas Manson, Arlo Quint, Lauren Russell, and I—chose Boston this time around. We selected as the Boston editors Michael Carr, John Mulrooney, and Aaron Tieger, who, with Jim Behrle and me, curated this past summer’s Boston Poet Tea Party marathon reading.
It was really great to work with these six champions of the written word. I hope you’ll have as much fun reading our choices as I have. This brings the number of poets who have appeared in these five volumes to 323. (For a complete rundown of PBR contributors, see p. 22.) And a hearty thank you to all of our advertisers, whose support has helped bring this issue to you.
